  • 2 large eggs (or 2 flax eggs for vegan version)
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • ½ cup all-purpose flour (or 1:1 gluten-free flour blend for gluten-free version)
  • ½ cup unsweetened cocoa powder (high-quality recommended)
  • ¼ teaspoon baking powder
  • ¼ teaspoon salt (reduce to ⅛ tsp if using salted butter)
  • ½ cup chocolate chips milk, dark, or semi-sweet (optional)
  • ¼ cup chopped nuts walnuts or pecans (optional)

Equipment

  • Air Fryer,
  • 6-inch or 7-inch Round or Square Cake Pan
  • Parchment paper
  • - Mixing bowls
  • Spatula or Wooden Spoon

Method

  1. Prepare Your Pan: Choose a 6-inch or 7-inch round or square cake pan. Line with parchment paper, leaving overhang on two sides for easy removal. Lightly grease any exposed pan sides.
  2. Preheat Your Air Fryer: Set your air fryer to 320°F (160°C) and let it preheat for about 5 minutes.
  3. Melt the Butter: In a medium microwave-safe bowl, melt ½ cup butter in 30-second intervals, stirring between each until smooth.
  4. Combine Wet Ingredients: Add sugar to melted butter and whisk until well combined. Whisk in eggs one at a time until emulsified. Stir in vanilla extract.
  5. Whisk Dry Ingredients: In a separate bowl, whisk together flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, and salt.
  6. Combine Wet and Dry: Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, stirring gently until just combined. Do not overmix. Fold in chocolate chips and nuts if using.
  7. Pour into Pan: Pour the batter into the prepared pan, spreading evenly. Tap the pan to release air bubbles.
  8. Air Fry: Carefully place the pan in the preheated air fryer basket. Cook at 320°F (160°C) for 20-25 minutes. Check doneness at 18 minutes – toothpick should come out with moist crumbs.
  9. Cool and Serve: Remove from air fryer and cool in pan for 15-20 minutes before lifting out with parchment overhang. Cool completely on a rack before cutting.
