Ingredients

  • 4 Hot Dogs high-quality all-beef hot dogs, split lengthwise but not all the way through
  • 4 slices Cheese Cheddar, American, or Monterey Jack
  • 4 Hot Dog Buns standard hot dog buns or thick slices of bread like Texas Toast
  • 2 tbsp Butter or Mayonnaise softened, for crispiness
  • Optional Toppings Ketchup and mustard for serving

Equipment

  • Air Fryer,
  • tongs

Method

  1. Preheat your air fryer to 375°F (190°C). Take the hot dogs and slice them lengthwise about three-quarters of the way through to create a pocket.
  2. Place one slice of cheese into the open pocket of each hot dog. If using bread slices instead of buns, lay the cheese flat on the bread before adding the hot dog.
  3. Wrap the hot dog bun around the cheese-stuffed hot dog. Spread a thin layer of softened butter or mayonnaise on the exterior of the bun.
  4. Place the prepared hot dogs into the preheated air fryer basket, seam side up or closed. Cook for 4 minutes at 375°F (190°C).
  5. Use tongs to gently flip the hot dogs. Continue cooking for another 3 to 4 minutes, or until the buns are golden-brown and the cheese is melted and slightly bubbling.
  6. Remove from the air fryer and serve immediately with ketchup and mustard.

Notes

For extra crispiness, use mayonnaise instead of butter. Store leftovers in the fridge for up to 3 days and reheat in the air fryer at 350°F for 3-5 minutes to maintain crispiness. Customize with toppings like chili, bacon, or jalapenos for variety.
