Method
- Clear a clean workstation and gather all ingredients and tools including a cutting board, sharp knife, coffin-shaped cookie cutter or stencil, and a small bowl for mixing condiments.
- Mix mayonnaise, Dijon mustard, and optional softened cream cheese in a bowl until smooth; set aside.
- Lay out bread slices and cut coffin shapes using the cookie cutter or stencil and sharp knife, aiming for clean edges.
- Spread a thin layer of the condiment mixture onto half of the coffin-shaped bread slices (bottom layers).
- Layer each sandwich with: ham slice, cheddar cheese slice, turkey slice, and provolone cheese slice, folding or trimming to fit coffin shape.
- Add shredded lettuce and optionally red onion and pickles on top of the cheese and meat layers.
- Spread condiment mixture on remaining bread slices and place them condiment-side down on filled layers; gently press to compress.
- Optionally decorate sandwiches for a spooky effect using cheese cutouts labeled "RIP", olive slices as eyes, and piped cream cheese to mimic mummy bandages.
- Serve immediately or store properly to maintain freshness for later consumption.

Notes
Coffin Sandwiches are versatile and can be customized for different dietary needs and preferences, including vegan, vegetarian, and gluten-free versions. Use firmer bread for clean cutting and avoid sogginess by layering wet ingredients away from bread.
