Method
- Wash and core the apples. Peel if desired, though leaving the skin on adds nutrients and texture. Slice the apples into uniform strips about ¼-inch thick, resembling thick-cut french fries.
- In a medium bowl, whisk together the sugar, cinnamon, cornstarch, and nutmeg (if using).
- Drizzle the melted butter or coconut oil over the apple strips in the bowl, then toss to coat evenly. Next, add the dry cinnamon-sugar mixture and toss again until all pieces are well-covered.
- Preheat your air fryer to 375°F (190°C). Arrange the coated apple fries in a single layer in the air fryer basket. Work in batches if needed to avoid overcrowding.
- Air fry for 8–10 minutes, shaking the basket halfway through cooking. The edges should turn golden brown and crispy when done.
- Transfer immediately to a serving plate. Optional: Dust with extra cinnamon sugar or powdered sugar while still warm. Serve alongside caramel sauce, whipped cream, or plain for best results.

Notes
These apple fries are best served immediately to retain optimum crispiness. Leftovers can be stored in an airtight container at room temperature for up to one day or refrigerated for three days. Reheat by placing them back in the air fryer at 350°F (175°C) for 3–5 minutes to restore crispness.
