Festive Christmas Bread

Ingredients
  

Dry Ingredients
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour spooned and leveled
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 tsp baking powder fresh
  • 1/2 tsp salt
Wet Ingredients
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter melted and cooled
  • 2 large eggs room temperature
  • 1/2 cup sour cream full-fat
  • 1/4 cup milk whole milk preferred
  • 2 tsp vanilla extract pure
  • 1/2 cup holiday sprinkles jimmies, not nonpareils
Glaze
  • 1 cup powdered sugar sifted
  • 2 tbsp heavy cream or milk
  • 1/4 tsp almond extract optional

Method
 

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9x5 inch loaf pan or line with parchment paper.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, and salt until well combined.
  3. In a separate bowl, whisk sugar, melted butter, eggs, sour cream, milk, and vanilla extract until smooth and pale.
  4. Pour wet ingredients into dry ingredients. Fold gently with a spatula until just combined and no flour streaks remain.
  5. Fold in holiday sprinkles gently, being careful not to overmix and streak the colors.
  6. Pour batter into prepared loaf pan and smooth the top with a spatula.
  7. Bake for 50–60 minutes, or until golden brown and a toothpick inserted in center comes out clean.
  8. Cool in pan for 10–15 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
  9. Whisk powdered sugar, heavy cream, and almond extract (if using) until smooth. Drizzle over cooled loaf.
  10. Add extra sprinkles on top before glaze sets. Slice and serve.

Notes
