For the Green Velvet Brownies
  • 1/2 cup 1/2 melted
  • unsalted butter
  • 1 cup 1
  • granulated sugar
  • 1/4 1/4
  • cup vegetable oil
  • 2 2 at room temperature
  • large eggs
  • 1 tablespoon 1
  • buttermilk (or substitute with 1/2 tsp lemon juice in 1 tbsp milk)
  • 1 teaspoon 1
  • vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon 1
  • white vinegar
  • 1-2 teaspoon 1-2 gel preferred for vibrant color
  • green food coloring
  • 1 cup 1
  • all purpose flour
  • 2 tablespoons 2
  • unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon 1/2
  • baking soda
  • 1/4 teaspoon 1/4
  • salt
For the Cream Cheese Frosting
  • 8 oz 8 full fat block, softened
  • cream cheese
  • 1/4 cup 1/4 unsalted, softened
  • butter
  • 2-3 cups 2-3 sifted
  • powdered sugar
  • 1 teaspoon 1
  • vanilla extract

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease an 8x8 inch baking pan with butter or non-stick spray. Line with parchment paper, leaving overhang on two sides.
Combine Wet Ingredients
  1. In a large mixing bowl, combine melted butter and granulated sugar. Whisk until well incorporated.
  2. Add vegetable oil and whisk again.
  3. Add eggs one at a time, whisking well after each.
  4. Stir in buttermilk, vanilla extract, and white vinegar.
  5. Add green food coloring and mix until desired color is achieved.
Combine Dry Ingredients
  1. In a separate bowl, whisk together flour, cocoa powder, baking soda, and salt.
  2. Fold dry ingredients into wet ingredients gently, until just combined.
Bake
  1. Pour batter into prepared pan and spread evenly. Bake for 25-30 minutes, until toothpick comes out with moist crumbs.
  2. Cool completely in pan on wire rack.
Prepare Frosting
  1. Beat cream cheese and butter until smooth.
  2. Add powdered sugar gradually, mixing on low.
  3. Add vanilla and salt, then mix on medium-high until light and fluffy.
Finish and Serve
  1. Spread frosting over cooled brownies.
  2. Add sprinkles if desired. Slice into squares and serve.
