For the Filling
  • 1 tablespoon unsalted butter
  • 1 medium yellow onion thinly sliced
  • 1 green green bell pepper thinly sliced, seeds removed
  • 2 cloves garlic minced
  • 1 pound ground beef 80/20 recommended for flavor
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 0.5 teaspoon black pepper
  • 0.5 teaspoon onion powder
  • 0.5 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
For the Sandwiches
  • 4 hoagie rolls or sub rolls soft but sturdy
  • 8 slices provolone cheese or 1 cup shredded provolone
Optional Additions
  • 1 cup sliced mushrooms optional
  • 1 pinch red pepper flakes optional
  • 1 handful fresh spinach optional
For Serving
  • ketchup optional
  • hot sauce optional
