Ingredients

Breadsticks
  • 1 package active dry yeast 0.25 ounce
  • 1 tsp sugar
  • 1 cup warm water 105-115°F
  • 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
Optional Seasonings
  • 1 tsp garlic powder optional
  • 1 tsp Italian seasoning optional
  • 1 tsp rosemary optional
  • 1 egg beaten with 1 tbsp water for egg wash

Equipment

  • Baking sheet
  • Pizza Stone

Method

  1. Activate the yeast by dissolving it with sugar in warm water. Let it stand for 5-10 minutes until foamy.
  2. In a bowl, combine flour, salt, and olive oil. Add the yeast mixture and mix until a dough forms.
  3. Knead the dough on a floured surface for 5-7 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  4. Place the dough in an oiled bowl, cover with a towel, and let rise for 1 hour or until doubled in size.
  5. Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C). Punch down the dough and divide into 12 equal pieces. Roll each into a rope shape and pinch the ends to form 'knuckles'.
  6. Brush the breadsticks with egg wash and bake for 12-15 minutes or until golden brown.
  7. Cool the breadsticks on a wire rack before serving.
