Method
- Color the Dough: If using pre-made dough, divide it into quarters. Add a few drops of orange food coloring to each quarter, mixing until evenly colored. For homemade dough, add the orange food coloring before the last mix.
- Roll Out the Dough: On a lightly floured surface, roll out the dough to about 1/4 inch thickness.
- Cut Out Circles: Use a round cookie cutter (about 2-3 inches in diameter) to cut out cookies.
- Cut Out Faces: Use a small knife or cookie cutter to carefully carve out jack o' lantern faces in half of the cookies. Use triangle shapes for the eyes and nose, then a jagged mouth. Premade face cut outs can also be used.
- Bake: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Place the cookies on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Bake for 8-10 minutes, or until the edges are lightly golden.
- Cool: Let the cookies cool on the baking sheet for a few minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.
- Assemble: Once the cookies are completely cool, spread a generous layer of vanilla frosting on the flat side of the undecorated cookies.
- Top and Decorate: Top the frosted cookies with the jack o' lantern face cookies. Gently press the face cookie into the frosting. Add chocolate chips or candy eyes to further decorate the faces.

Notes
Chilling the dough for at least 30 minutes before rolling helps with easier handling and prevents spreading. For easier jack o' lantern faces, you can use templates or premade cut outs. Get creative with fillings like chocolate frosting, peanut butter, or marshmallow cream. Vegan versions can be made by using vegan dough and frosting.
