  • 1 sheet puff pastry thawed (9-10 oz)
  • 1 large egg beaten
Sweet Variations
  • 2 tablespoons sugar
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 2 tablespoons mini chocolate chips optional
  • 1 tablespoon chopped nuts pecans or walnuts, optional
  • 1/4 cup cream cheese softened, mixed with 1 tbsp powdered sugar
Savory Variations
  • 2 tablespoons Parmesan cheese grated
  • 1/2 teaspoon dried Italian herbs oregano, basil, thyme
  • pinch garlic powder
  • 1 tablespoon pesto optional
  • 1 tablespoon cooked bacon bits or ham finely diced, optional

Equipment

  • Baking sheet
  • Knife or Pizza Cutter

Method
 

  1. Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C).
  2. Unfold thawed puff pastry on a lightly floured surface or parchment paper.
  3. Whisk egg in a small bowl and brush evenly over the entire pastry surface.
  4. Sprinkle sweet or savory toppings of choice over the pastry:
    • Sweet: sugar and cinnamon, chocolate chips, nuts, or cream cheese mixture.
    • Savory: Parmesan cheese, herbs, garlic powder, pesto, bacon or ham.
  5. Cut the pastry into 1/2 to 3/4-inch wide strips using a sharp knife or pizza cutter.
  6. Twist each strip gently from end to end to form a snake-like shape.
  7. Place twisted pastries on a parchment-lined baking sheet and refrigerate for 15 minutes.
  8. Bake for 12-18 minutes until golden brown and puffed.
  9. Cool on baking sheet for a few minutes before serving.
