Ingredients

  • 1 pound Ground Beef 80/20 works best for flavor
  • 1 medium Onion finely chopped
  • 2 cloves Garlic minced
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire Sauce
  • 1 teaspoon Salt
  • 0.5 teaspoon Black Pepper
  • 1 cup Cheddar Cheese shredded
  • 0.5 cup Ketchup
  • 2 tablespoons Mustard
  • 0.25 cup Pickles chopped, optional
  • 1 cup Milk
  • 2 large Eggs
  • 1 cup Flour
  • 0.25 cup Butter melted
  • 0.5 teaspoon Baking Powder
  • 0.25 teaspoon Garlic Powder

Equipment

  • Large skillet,
  • 9-inch Pie Dish
  • - Mixing bowls
  • - Whisk
  • Wooden spoon

Method

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Set a 9-inch pie dish aside.
  2. Place a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the ground beef and break it apart with a wooden spoon. Let it brown for about 5 minutes until no longer pink.
  3. Toss in the chopped onion and minced garlic. Stir and cook for 2 to 3 minutes until the onion softens and becomes translucent. Season with salt, pepper, and Worcestershire sauce.
  4. Reduce the heat to low. Stir in the ketchup, mustard, and chopped pickles. Mix everything together until the meat is well coated. Let it simmer gently for a minute, then remove from heat.
  5. In a medium bowl, whisk together the milk, eggs, melted butter, flour, baking powder, and garlic powder. Whisk until smooth.
  6. Spread the cooled beef mixture evenly into the prepared pie dish. Sprinkle the shredded cheddar cheese over the top. Then pour the batter over the cheese, making sure it covers the filling entirely.
  7. Place the pie dish on the middle rack of your oven. Bake for 25 to 30 minutes, until the top is golden brown and a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  8. Let the pie rest on a wire rack for at least 5 minutes before slicing. Serve warm, with extra ketchup or mustard on the side if you like.
