Ingredients

Broccolini
  • 1.5 pounds broccolini trimmed
  • 3 tablespoons extra virgin olive oil
  • 3 cloves garlic thinly sliced
  • 0.5 teaspoon red pepper flakes or more to taste
  • 0.5 lemon lemon juice and zest freshly squeezed and zested
  • 0.25 teaspoon sea salt or to taste
Seasoning
  • freshly ground black pepper to taste

Equipment

  • oven
  • Baking sheet
  • Mixing bowl

Method

  1. Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper for easy cleanup.
  2. Wash and thoroughly dry the broccolini. Trim the tough ends and slice thick stalks lengthwise to ensure even cooking.
  3. In a large mixing bowl, combine olive oil, thinly sliced garlic, and red pepper flakes. Stir to blend flavors.
  4. Add the broccolini to the bowl and toss thoroughly to coat all stalks with the oil mixture.
  5. Season the broccolini with sea salt and freshly ground black pepper and toss again to distribute evenly.
  6. Arrange the broccolini in a single layer on the prepared baking sheet without overcrowding.
  7. Roast in the oven for 10-15 minutes, until tender-crisp with lightly charred edges. Check at 10 minutes for preferred doneness.
  8. Remove from oven and immediately squeeze fresh lemon juice over the broccolini. Sprinkle lemon zest, toss lightly to combine.
  9. Serve warm as a vibrant side dish to your meal.

Notes

For a twist, try adding freshly grated Parmesan cheese during the last few minutes of roasting or after it comes out of the oven for a savory layer. Variations include adding fresh herbs or a touch of sweetness with maple syrup.
