  • 4 medium-sized yams
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter
  • 1/4 cup honey
  • 1 tablespoon Cajun seasoning
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg

  • Peel and slice the yams into 1/4 inch thick rounds. Place them in a large baking dish.
  • In a medium saucepan, combine the brown sugar, butter, honey, Cajun seasoning, cinnamon, nutmeg, cayenne pepper, vanilla extract, orange juice, and salt. Cook over medium heat until the mixture is fully melted and well combined.
  • Pour the mixture over the sliced yams, making sure they are evenly coated.

  • If using chopped pecans, sprinkle them over the yams and bake for another 5 minutes until they're toasted.
  • Remove from the oven and let it rest for a few minutes before serving.

Notes

For a healthier version, you can reduce the amount of sugar and butter. Feel free to customize the spice level to your liking.
