Ingredients

Cookie Base
  • 1 box (14.3 ounces) chocolate cake mix or your favorite chocolate cookie recipe batter
  • 1/2 cup vegetable oil
  • 2 large eggs
Decoration
  • 36 Hershey's Kisses unwrapped
  • 1 tube decorating icing any color

Equipment

  • oven
  • Baking sheet
  • Mixing bowl

Method

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a large bowl, combine the chocolate cake mix, vegetable oil, and eggs. Mix until well combined. The dough will be thick.
  3. Drop rounded tablespoons of dough onto ungreased baking sheets.
  4. Bake for 8-10 minutes, or until the edges are set.
  5. Immediately after removing the cookies from the oven, gently press a Hershey's Kiss onto the center of each cookie. The heat will slightly melt the bottom of the Kiss, helping it adhere.
  6. Let the cookies cool completely on the baking sheets.
  7. Once the cookies are completely cool, use the decorating icing to create a band around the base of each Hershey's Kiss, resembling a witch hat brim. You can get creative with icing color and add sprinkles if desired.
  8. These Witch Hat Cookies are now ready to be devoured!

Notes

Feel free to make your own royal icing for a more custom look and flavor. Use gluten-free chocolate cake mix if needed. Try melted candy melts instead of icing for colorful bands. Don't overbake; cooling completely before decorating is important.
