Ingredients

Croissant Dough
  • 1 package high-quality store-bought croissant dough
Filling
  • 1 slice smoked ham thinly sliced
  • 1 slice Swiss cheese
  • 1 tbsp Dijon mustard
Egg Wash
  • 1 egg egg
  • 1 tbsp milk
Seasoning
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp black pepper

Equipment

  • oven
  • Baking sheet
  • Parchment paper

Method

Preheat and Prepare
  1. Layout your croissant dough triangles on the parchment paper.
  2. Apply a very thin layer of Dijon mustard to the wide end of each triangle. Place a slice of smoked ham followed by a generous slice of Swiss cheese.
  3. Starting from the wide end, gently roll the dough toward the point. Be sure not to squeeze too hard, you want to leave room for the French pastry layers to expand.
  4. Brush each croissant with your egg wash. Sprinkle a little black pepper or garlic powder on top.
  5. Place them in the oven for 12 to 15 minutes. Watch as they turn from pale dough to a deep, burnished gold.
  6. Let them sit for two minutes. This allows the cheese croissant interior to set so it doesn't all run out at once.
